The stars of the Japanese drama Nodame Cantabile took Hong Kong by storm yesterday when they arrived to promote their new movie. Both actors received a warm reception from Hong Kong fans. Tamaki Hiroshi later revealed his close relationship with Ueno Juri by saying he received chocolates from her on Valentine's Day!
Tamaki and Ueno specially made the visit to Hong Kong to promote their new film. Yesterday they appeared in Kowloon Bay for an event to promote Nodame Cantabile Saishu Gakusho ~ Zenpen. There were over a thousand spectators that gathered at the venue, packing the place to the brim. Yesterday also happened to be the Lantern Festival (the 15th day of the Lunar New Year known as 'Chinese Valentine's Day'). After collaborating numerous times as an onscreen couple, the pair were also fortunate to celebrate this 'Valentine's Day' together in HK. The organizers gave them a matching pair of teddy bears to mark the occasion. Both Tamaki and Ueno rang the gong to wish for the box office success of their new movie.
When asked how they spent their Valentine's Day? Ueno replied: "Usually in Japan it's the girls who write love letters and send chocolates to men. On White Day (March 14th), they'll wait and see if they get chocolates in return." At that time, Tamaki revealed, "I had to work on Valentine's Day, but I received chocolates from Ueno." The entire crowd erupted in cheers. Tamaki laughed and continued, "There's two types of chocolates. One is the friendly type and the other is the real type. The ones I received were the friendly type."
Later on, Ueno divulged the ending of the movie. She said that in the first part there is a bit of a bump in their relationship, but they patch things up in the second part to give the pair a happy ending. Tamaki quickly broke in and asked the audience to watch the movie. The movie was filmed across many cities in Europe. Ueno said she liked Czech Republic and Vienna, while Tamaki agreed that Prague had gorgeous countryside scenery.

"When I read the script, I wasn't very fond of her," Kyoko Fukada says of Narumi Kurita, the character she plays in the new series on the Fuji Television Network, "Massugu na otoko" (Straight man). She says it's not rare for her to play characters with whom she can't identify.
"We don't get a portrayal of our characters' pasts. And we start performing our roles without knowing how the story ends."
Narumi is a rebel, and on the surface seems to be living life with abandon. She has men wrapped around her little finger, and has a devilishness about her.
"I wondered why she was so defiant," Fukada says. "I couldn't really understand her."
Still, that Narumi had somehow managed to get through life this far had Fukada convinced that she must have some redeeming qualities. "There must be something about her, something lovable," she says. "My task is to have this girl -- who I didn't like when I read about her -- liked by everyone else. That's where I need to show off my acting skills."
Fukada didn't want to pierce her ears, so she glued on the three earrings that glitter on her earlobes. "I made suggestions about things like Narumi's clothes and her hairstyle to make it easier to see what kind of person she is," Fukada says. "Taking on a person's style also helps me get into character."
Last year, Fukada played Doronjo, leader of the Doronbo gang, in the film "Yattaman," and the second wife of the first Edo shogun Ieyasu Tokugawa, Yodogimi, in the NHK historical drama series "Tenchijin" (Heaven, earth and mankind).
"Until then, I'd played a lot of princesses and kooky girls. All of a sudden I found myself in alpha female roles," she says, laughing. "People I was meeting for the first time were calling me Ms. Doronjo, it was great. I think it's been significant that I've taken on such roles. I think that I'm growing into my late 20s in a good way.
Prior to the interview, Fukada had asked that we(mainichi) not take any pictures while she spoke, because it got in the way of her concentration. She wanted to make sure that she could think things through before she communicated her thoughts.
"When I'm asked these questions in interviews, it allows me to think about a lot of things."
